Budapest has a unique history between 1870-1930.
- in 1873, Budapest becomes the capital of Hungary. It is formed of three towns: Buda, Pest, and Obuda.
- The city was divided in to districts. District IV was where "shops, hotels, promenades on the riverbank" could be found.
- Following World War I, 12% of the population of Hungary lived in Budapest
- The first electric metro on the continent opened in 1896 in Budapest
- By 1930, electric lighting and water was in 85% of homes
